10 to 22 June 2020 Enchanted Austria

Wednesday 10 June 2020 to Monday 22 June 2020

This is the second holiday led by Kayleen Asbo and Stephen Carpenter. "Enchanted Austria" is available either as one holiday of 12 days, or two separate six-day holidays. Part One, "Beethoven's Vienna", will take us to Vienna from Wednesday 10 to Tuesday 16 June 2020, and Part Two, "In the footsteps of Mozart and Schubert" to Salzburg and Schwarzenberg from Tuesday 16 to Monday 22 June 2020. These destinations are all important centres of culture in Austria. Starting in Vienna we explore this wondeful city which has been at the crossroads of art and music in Europe since the 18th century. We will visit important locations where the great composers lived and worked, including Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart and Schubert, take a bus tour of the city, attend the Vienna State Opera's performance of Lucia di Lammermuir (optional), make an excursion to Eisenstadt where Haydn worked for the Esterhazy Family during the 18th century, and we will attend a Mass sung by the Vienna Boys' Choir at the Imperial Chapel. Moving on to Salzburg, we visit Mozart's birthplace and residence, take a Sound of Music tour, and enjoy two dinners at the famous St Peter Stiftskeller and up at the Fortress overlooking the city. After Salzburg, we travel on to Schwarzenberg. This is a glorious alpine village which hosts an annual Schubertiade attracting some of the leading artists from around the world. As well as enjoying concerts at the Schubertiade, we will take an excursion to Lindau and Bregenz, and a short boat trip across Lake Constance.
